Brief Description: The University of Toronto’s International Scholarship Program aims to honor international students who stand out for their extraordinary academic performance, inventiveness, and leadership qualities within their institution. Particular attention is given to how the kid has impacted their school and community as well as how they may go on to positively impact the world community in the future. The University of Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Undergraduate Scholarship Program honors deserving students from all around the world, including foreigners enrolled in Canadian high schools. Awards are given out annually.
This is U of T’s most prestigious and competitive scholarship for international students. Each year approximately 37 students will be named Lester B. Pearson Scholars.

Apart from fulfilling the standard conditions for admission to the university, you might also need to submit a personal statement or declaration of interest, or provide certain subject prerequisites.
We extend provisional admission offers to eligible candidates with any kind of educational background. We will base our provisional admission decision on your midyear results from this year and your final results from last year if you are presently enrolled in a post-secondary program or secondary school.

English Language Requirements
- English is the language of instruction and examination at U of T, and success in our degree programs requires a high level of English language proficiency.
- If English is not your first language (i.e. is not the first language you learned at home as a child), you will need to provide evidence of adequate English facility for admission consideration, unless you qualify for an exemption.
- You may qualify for an exemption from the English facility requirement if one of the following applies to you:
- You have completed/are completing four or more years of full-time study in a recognized Canadian school (in Canada) that teaches in English
- You have completed/are completing four or more years of full-time study in an English language school located in a country where the dominant language is English
- Your first language is French and you have completed four or more years of full-time study at a Canadian school.
Examinations and Certifications That Offer Credible Proof of English Proficiency
- If you must demonstrate your proficiency in the English language, you can meet the requirement by passing any of the qualifications or examinations below with satisfactory results. For this purpose, we will not accept your Grade 12 English test results, your results from any other English course or exam, or letters of recommendation from your work or school.
- You may be eligible for one of our English Language Transition Programs if you fulfill the prerequisites for admission and the program, but not the English language requirements of the university.
- To find out if you need to provide proof of your proficiency in English, get in touch with University Admissions and Outreach (external link).
- It is highly recommended that you finish your test and submit your scores to us well in advance of published deadlines. It may take several weeks from the time your test results are released until they reach University Admissions and Outreach.
